Call for Papers: Science and Governance

The Commonwealth Institute for Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) invites researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit papers for the upcoming publication and symposium on “Science and Governance.”

Theme Overview

Science and governance are intricately linked, shaping policy, society, and the future. As the world grapples with complex challenges like climate change, public health crises, and technological disruptions, the integration of scientific knowledge into governance becomes more critical than ever. This call seeks to explore the intersections between scientific innovation, evidence-based policy-making, and the ethical, social, and political dimensions of governance.

Sub-Themes

We welcome submissions addressing, but not limited to, the following areas:

  1. Science for Policy and Policy for Science
    * Evidence-based decision-making in governance.
    * The role of scientists in shaping public policy.
  2. Technology and Digital Transformation
    * The impact of AI, big data, and blockchain on governance.
    * Cybersecurity and governance in the digital age.
  3. Health and Environmental Governance
    * Addressing pandemics and global health challenges through science.
    * Policies for sustainable environmental management.
  4. Ethics and Accountability
    * Balancing scientific innovation with ethical governance.
    * Transparency and public trust in science-driven policies.
  5. Science Education and Public Engagement
    * Promoting scientific literacy in governance.
    * Bridging the gap between science, policymakers, and the public.
  6. Global and Regional Perspectives
    * Case studies of science and governance in Africa, Europe, and beyond.
    * International collaborations for addressing global challenges.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts: Submissions should include a 200 to 250-word abstract outlining the paper’s scope, methodology, and significance.
  • Full Papers: Final manuscripts should not exceed 3,000 words, including references.
  • Formatting: APA format for citations and references.
  • Deadline for Abstract Submission: 30 December 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance: 10 January 2025
  • Deadline for Full Paper Submission: 30 January 2025

Publication and Presentation

Accepted papers will be published in CIAPS proceedings, and authors may be invited to present their work at the upcoming symposium on Science and Governance at CIAPS.
