Course Overview

Our Media and Communications course is an intensive one year programme with much emphasis will be placed on new media.

It is a hands-on, innovative and dynamic programme that focuses on the strategic elements of communication, promotion and journalism in the media and cultural industries and the knowledge economy.

Graduates from this course will leave CIAPS with a clear understanding of the essential features of the media industry today. During this programme, they will experience different areas of media production and work.

We have partnered with over twenty organisations to provide essential work placements for our students, in order to ensure each learner has a variety of opportunities to combine the theoretical components of the classroom with the practical elements of the workplace.

This course will require travelling, and part of the programme will take place abroad. It is therefore advisable that candidates consider their willingness and ability to travel before enrolling.

How will you be assessed?

This Professional Certificate Programme consists of 9 modules made up of 34 units. Participants in this course will be offered the opportunity to combine practise in real workplace situations with learning in our Centre.

It is a very interactive programme and each module can have both formative and summative assessment. These assessments can be written, verbal and based on observations.

There are two options of learning:

  • Classroom at the Centre or
  • Distance Learning and Online

In both cases, final assessments will be marked in England.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for this course should have a first degree (Bachelors degree) or equivalent. Having a good grade is a major advantage. Applicants without such qualifications may apply, but their applications will be subject to a more complex process, and they will be required to demonstrate their ability to successfully follow the programme. In all cases, applicants will be tested by CIAPS through written assessments and verbal interview. Applicants will be deemed successful only if they are judged to possess not only good academic credentials but also a mix of:

Research

We place a lot of emphasis on research, both empirical and theoretical. Our faculty members are continuously engaged in research related to the subject they teach, and we encourage students to participate alongside them. We also strongly encourage our students to create their own research topics related to their area of work or interest. By the end of this course, a good student should have completed at least one publishable body of research.
