Course Overview
Master’s of Public Policy and Development (MPPD) degree programme is design for people who want to be experts in politics, policy and development. It is an intensive one-year programme aimed at graduates who wish to build a career in the analysis and management of national and international policies. The programme’s ultimate aim is to help create a new generation of competent and fully aware analysts and policymakers. Researchers and trainers who wish to advance their understanding of public government are also encouraged to participate.
Much emphasis will be placed on comparative studies of policies and institutions in developing countries and advanced democracies.
Graduates from this course will leave CIAPS with a clear understanding of the essential features of various types of past and contemporary organisations throughout the world. During the programme, each student will experience different roles and projects within public and non-governmental organisations.
We have over twenty partners, including Local Government Authorities and international organisations, who provide essential work placements for our students, ensuring each learner has a variety of opportunities to combine the theoretical components of the classroom and the practical elements of the workplace.
This programme will require travelling, and part of the programme will take place abroad; it is therefore, advisable that candidates consider their willingness and ability to travel during the programme before enrolling.

Applicants for this course should have a first degree (Bachelors degree) or equivalent. Having a good grade is a major advantage. Applicants without such qualifications may apply but their applications will be subject to a more complex process, and they will be required to demonstrate their ability to successfully follow the programme. In all cases, applicants will be tested by CIAPS through written assessments and verbal interview. Applicants will be deemed successful only if they are judged to possess a good mix of:

We place a lot of emphasis on research, both empirical and theoretical. Our faculty members are continuously engaged in research related to the subject they teach, and we encourage students to participate alongside them. We also strongly encourage our students to create their own research topics related to their area of work or interest. By the end of this course, a good student should have completed at least one publishable body of research.
