Course Overview

Beyond their homeland in Nigeria, where they have the highest concentration, strong traces of Yoruba culture and people are today found in Africa, America, Europe and even in Asia mainly due to slavery, trade, immigration and literature, but who are the Yoruba people, what are their original and modern beliefs, what are their taboos, what is their typical and modern cuisine, how do they celebrate and mourn, what is their family system?

This CIAPS Certificate in Yoruba Cultural Studies can give you an insight into all these. The programme is an initiative of the CIAPS School of Language and Humanities. It has been designed as an introduction to the culture of Yoruba people across the globe.

This is not a Yoruba language course but elements of Yoruba language will be treated.

This is an online, self-paced programme that allows you to manage your study and study time. Average study time is between 6 to 10 weeks. You can also join our group discussions.

Arrangements will be made for meetups with course members.
