CIAPS is pleased to announce its 2016 Public Interest Essay Competition.

This year’s competition, themed Diagnosis and Prognosis of the Nigerian Recession, is opened to Students, Graduates, Professionals, Academics and all Stakeholders with interest in and understanding of the Nigerian economy.

There is a total of One million Naira Prize. Winning Entries will be published and Winners of the competition will be offered to join the CIAPS research team.

Intro: For the first time in more than a decade, economic experts, operators and observers have officially and unanimously declared Nigeria in recession.

Like with most political-economic events, many disagree on the reasons for the recession and consequently possible ways out of it.

This CIAPS Prize is aimed at encouraging fact-based analysis as part of our effort in contributing to the building of knowledge based society.

Entries are welcomed from anyone with interest in and knowledge of the Nigerian Economy and recession.

Successful candidates will submit

  • A not more than 5000 words Essay that clearly and concisely traces the origin and causes of the present recession, identify possible ways out of it and suggest what government, businesses and individuals should do and not do to overcome the recession.
  • A not more than 1000 words synopsis of the same essay.

The successful essays will be objective and all analysis will be backed by facts and figures.

Selected essays will be published for an international audience.

Prizes

Five top essays will be selected for prizes and publications.

Best entry N500, 000

Second place N250, 000

Third place N150,000

Fourth and Fifth runners up N50,000

Entries will be judged by members of the CIAPS faculty in collaboration with a selected panelist of economic experts, operators and observers.

The panel coordinated by CIAPS Centre Director, Anthony Kila includes Political Economist and Centre for Value and Leadership Founder Pat Utomi, Former World bank VP, Africa Oby Ezekwesili, Economist, Public Affairs analyst and Entrepreneur Henry Boyo and former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian University Council and President of Nigerian Institute of Management Munzali Jibril

All entries are to be submitted with a cover note containing a brief biography of writer by visiting www.ciaps.org not later than 12am 29th November 2016

  1. I tried submitting an article for the essay but I was told is not allowed because I was using 2016 Microsoft office word.

    1. If your file is more than 5MB, you wont be allowed to upload it. Alternatively you can convert to pdf to upload. We only allow .pdf and .doc files

  2. The objectivity mentioned earlier as a criterion for the articles,does it mean to place no blame for any organ of government or individual for the economic bad-market?

  3. Please admin. Is there any other way to submit the essay because I have tried what I can.
    I have reduced my word count. Used PDF and non worked even as my file is not up to the aforementioned 5mb limit.
    Please check the submission process and re- advice us on what to do.

  4. the 5000 words essay should it be joined together with the 1000 words synopsis as one or separately but submitted the same time.

  5. please can I submitted hardcopy of my article via postal service..because the online aspect of submission,is not working out,beside Am not adamant to instruction. (my essay words wasn’t more than 5,000 words nor my synopsis more than 1,000words….please a special consideration should be given to me, so as to submit via courier services

  6. Thanks for your previous responses. They were quite useful but please dont be offended, cause i got one more question. Pls can one organize the essay in subheadings like Introduction, origin,causes,solutions etc?

  7. Nice. This gives People the opportunity to contribute knowledge towards the recession in Nigeria and how it can be cuembed or addressed.

  9. I was able to submit my essay some weeks ago but I did not recieve an acknowledgement. It would have been interesting for future purposes to allow for email notification such that when you submit, you get an acknowledgement in your mail that your document was submitted successfully.

  10. Good day. Please I want to find out if graphs, tables, diagrams, appendix or charts can be included in the essay. And will they be counted as part of the word count of the essay. If yes, how many words will they account for. thank you

  11. I tried sending it yesterday with my file less than 4mb, docx format, but still didn’t get through. I’m currently working on a PDF format. Can the deadline be shifted by another 12hours please?

  12. Hello, I participated in the last easy writing and wanted to know the actual date for announcement of the winners. and how it would be communicated.

  13. Let’s exercise patience please. I’m sure they are working on the essays. The essays will be published at their convenience.

  14. Keep your mind at rest. Somebody lodged a complaint to us at the Lagos State Lottery Board. We are working with the consumer agency to ensure that justice is served and rightful winners rewarded as promised.

  15. Based on some logistics, I think this essay contest is FAKE….CIAP couldn’t provide any result. the dates the Announced for their winners has passed..
